“Harmony in Melody” & "Unity in Diversity"
I hail from a family of musicians where music means the world to us. My father Sri. B.V. Sudarsana Rao had been a self-taught flautist and he had inculcated that deep love of music in all of us. At my tender age of 7, he encouraged my interest in Sitar and motivated me to take it up full-time. He is my inspiration for both Hindustani as well as Carnatic music & it was his ardent desire to ensure I enter the Hall of Fame at the earliest. My mother, Girijamba is a devoted & religious mother who stood by us during our trials and tribulations, always with an encouraging word and a deep faith in our ability
Each one of the 5 brothers took up different instrument Tabla, Ghatam, Flute, Violin & Sitar .Strange but true! we wanted harmony at home and no competition. My elder brother B.V. Ganesh Rao is a tablist having accompanied great maestros of Hindustani music in many concerts. My 2nd brother, B.V. Subba Rao plays the Ghatam. My third brother B.V. Balasai on the Flute and last B.V. Raghavendra Rao on the Violin have received many accolades for their artistry.! Several joint performances together in a series of concerts began to confer on us the appellation Basavaraj Brothers, popularly known as PRANAVAM. I have 4 sisters out of whom the youngest, Bala Tripura Sundari, is a talented and highly acclaimed Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam exponent.
My wife B.Aruna is a source of great encouragement and is my one ocean of serene bliss in this Musical world. She keeps me focused and I am truly blessed for such a supporting life companion.
Our family exemplifies Indian values and is committed to the joint family system. We harmonize to serve the collective soul of classical music.
